Leica Camera AG celebrates a century of 35mm photography with the Leica MONOPAN 50, a new black-and-white film that brings the character of analog imagery to life. This ISO 50 film with 36 exposures reaches back to photography’s origins and is intended for photographers who deliberately choose the craft, its slower rhythm, and confidence in their own eye and technique.
The MONOPAN 50 is Leica’s first true 35mm film and pays tribute to the revolutionary Leica I, which transformed photography in 1925.
With an ultrafine grain structure, resolution of up to 280 line pairs per millimeter, and spectral sensitivity extending to 780 nm, the film delivers exceptional sharpness and tonal range for both large-format prints and detailed scans.

What makes MONOPAN 50 distinctive is the slower pace it demands. Its low ISO calls for patience, deliberate use of light, and creative use of wide apertures—even in bright daylight. The result is characteristic Leica bokeh: a sharp subject against a soft background.
Thanks to its extended spectral sensitivity, this film is also particularly suitable for infrared photography, in combination with Leica color filters.

Made in Germany and compatible with all black and white developers, MONOPAN 50 is well suited to landscapes, architecture, cityscapes, and travel photography. Its retro packaging evokes Leica’s heritage, while its technical performance invites photographers to tell new stories.
