Leica M11-P with Content Credentials for authenticity

Leica M11-P with Content Credentials for authenticity

The Leica M11-P is the world's first camera to store metadata by adding Content Credentials at the point of capture to protect the authenticity of digital images.

Since the introduction of the Leica M in 1954, countless iconic photographs were taken that reliably document the history of the world. However, in today's digital age, content can be easily manipulated.

Counterfeit and artificially created images rob consumers of their confidence in the accuracy of digital content and make it difficult to prove the authenticity of their own photos. A fatal problem that threatens the very foundation of photographic reporting.

Content Credentials

Content Credentials are the digital food label and the most widely accepted industry standard for all types of content, and the foundation for greater trust and transparency online. With the M11-P, Leica recognizes the invaluable work of all photographers and maintains trust and transparency in digital content and its sources.

The M11-P pioneered the use of secure metadata in accordance with the open-source CAI (Content Authenticity Initiative) standard. This feature provides an additional layer of transparency when designing and modifying an image. This allows information such as names, dates, changes made and tools used to be added securely, making the origin of the file clear.

This also makes clear why stricter AI labeling for photographers becomes more important when an image looks real but was partly constructed using synthetic or generative elements.

With Content Credentials, every captured Leica M11-P image receives a digital signature backed by a CAI-compliant certificate. Image authenticity can be easily verified at any time using a freely available, open-source CAI tool or by visiting https://contentcredentials.org/verify.

Leica's Content Credentials technology guarantees the authenticity of the photo through special hardware in the camera. It contains a special chipset for storing digital certificates from the German Federal Printing Office. This state-of-the-art integration guarantees complete controllability of the origin of an image. That's why Leica is setting a new standard for digital content protection in partnership with Adobe and its global community of nearly 2,000 members, including media and technology companies, NGOs, academics and more to advance the adoption and implementation of Content Credentials.

If the Leica Content Credentialsfunction is activated in the camera menu, the Content Credential logo is visible in the display and every image captured by the Leica M11-P is reliably signed using a special algorithm. The recording thus receives immutable and verifiable proof of the camera model, manufacturer and image characteristics.

The authenticity of these certificates can be verified and examined at any time using free CAI open-source tools. They prove whether an image is available in the original or in an edited version and in the latter case they provide insight into the history of content changes. So photographers can prove the authenticity of their photos from the moment they are taken to the moment they are published.

Other features of the Leica M11-P

The red Leica dot has been deliberately omitted from the front of the camera, which makes it possible, for example, to still photograph more discreetly. Instead, there is a subtle Leica inscription engraved on the top plate. This plate and the base plate are milled from aluminum in the matte black Leica M11-P and from brass blocks in the silver chrome version of the camera.

Together with the all-metal housing made of a very solid magnesium alloy, the interior of the camera is carefully protected. The LCD screen made of sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective protective coating allows optimal evaluation of the photos in all lighting conditions.

The Leica M11-P, with its 60 MP BSI CMOS sensor and Triple Resolution Technology and the powerful Maestro-III processor, combines state-of-the-art camera technology with maximum flexibility.

Finally, the large internal memory of 256 GB makes the camera a reliable and functional precision instrument Made in Germany that is always ready to use. There are also two by the way new black leather accessories for the M-System. The M-System protective bag and the carrying strap once again emphasize the clean lines in the design of the new Leica M11-P.
