Samyang AF 14-24mm F2.8 for L-Mount

Samyang AF 14-24mm F2.8 L: compact ultra-wide-angle zoom

Samyang is now also releasing the AF 14-24mm F2.8 for L-Mount. This makes the compact ultra-wide-angle zoom, previously released for Sony FE, available to users of Leica, Panasonic, Sigma, RED, and Blackmagic cameras with L-Mount, among others. The lens was developed in collaboration with Schneider-Kreuznach and is the first model in Samyang’s compact zoom series.

The lens is aimed at photographers and filmmakers looking for a fast ultra-wide-angle lens without automatically ending up with a large and heavy lens in their bag. Weighing just 441 grams, measuring 86,8 mm in length, and featuring a constant F2.8 aperture, this is a remarkably compact option in a category that is normally quite bulky.

Versatile from landscapes to interiors

With a zoom range of 14 to 24 mm, the Samyang AF 14-24mm F2.8 L is especially appealing for landscapes, cityscapes, architecture, interiors, night photography, and astrophotography. At 14 mm, the lens provides an angle of view of 114,2 degrees, allowing you to capture a great deal of the surroundings. The 24mm setting makes the lens a little more flexible, for example for reportage work, environmental portraits, or situations where an extreme wide angle would be too much.

The constant F2.8 aperture ensures that the maximum aperture remains the same throughout the zoom range. This is useful in low light, but also for video because exposure does not change while zooming. For photographers who enjoy working in the evening, indoors, or beneath a starry sky, F2.8 is also a clear advantage.

Schneider-Kreuznach and Samyang

Like the Sony FE version, this L-Mount version was also developed in collaboration with Schneider-Kreuznach. It combines the German brand’s optical design expertise with Samyang’s manufacturing and autofocus technology. The L-Mount version retains the same optical formula and key specifications as the original version for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras.

The minimum focusing distance is 18 centimeters. This lets you work close to your subject and create wide-angle images with a strong sense of depth. Think of a foreground detail with an expansive landscape behind it, an interior with a clear sense of space, or a creative close-up in which the surroundings play a prominent role.

Use standard 77 mm filters

One of the practical advantages of this lens is its support for standard 77 mm screw-in filters. That is not always a given with ultra-wide-angle zooms, as they often have a bulbous front element. In that case, you quickly have to resort to large filter holders and sizable rectangular filters.

With the Samyang AF 14-24mm F2.8 L, you can simply use circular filters such as polarizing filters, ND filters, and variable ND filters. This is a major advantage, especially for landscape photography and video. You need to carry fewer additional accessories and can work more quickly on location.

For photography and video

Autofocus is driven by a quiet linear STM motor. It is designed to focus quickly and accurately for photography, while also operating smoothly enough for video. This makes the lens well suited to hybrid creators who want to shoot both stills and moving images with a single lens.

The arrival of the L-Mount version makes Samyang’s compact zoom series more widely usable. The series began with the AF 14-24mm F2.8 FE, was expanded with the AF 24-60mm F2.8 FE, and gains a telephoto zoom as its third member with the AF 60-180mm F2.8 FE. Together, these lenses form a fast zoom trio for creators who want a complete F2.8 range, but in a more portable package than many traditional professional zoom sets.

Price and availability

The Samyang AF 14-24mm f/2.8 L-mount lens is available for € 1.049,- including VAT.

For L-Mount users, this lens is particularly appealing because of its combination of range, speed, weight, and filter compatibility. Rather than being an extreme niche lens, it is a practical ultra-wide-angle option for photographers who travel frequently and prefer a compact setup.
