Handbook

Photography Handbook, 11th Edition

Handboek fotografie - Pieter Dhaeze, 11th edition

This handbook is an unparalleled, comprehensive photography guide loved by beginners and professionals alike. For years, it has been the primary resource for the basic photography course at Fotovakschool. More than 35,000 copies had been sold at the time of publication, and sales were still growing.

You have a digital camera system (DSLR or mirrorless) capable of capturing stunning images, but you may forget that you—not just the camera—create the magic. A common misconception is that professional cameras guarantee an excellent photograph time after time.

Taking photographs at random with a mirrorless camera, just as you might with a phone, can occasionally produce a nice image, but it will rarely be an award winner. Understanding the fundamentals of photography and mastering the camera are crucial to controlling the final result.

Yet even with thorough knowledge and skills, pressing the shutter button does not always guarantee a perfect photograph. Careful planning, connecting with your subject, accumulated experience, patience, and, of course, inspiration are often more important if you want your photography to stand out.

This book is organized into four sections: FUNDAMENTALS, PRACTICE, IMAGE EDITING, and INSPIRATION, covering every aspect of digital photography. It is designed to spark motivation and creativity through engaging text, images, and illustrations. It will quickly help you master concepts such as stops and steps, Live View, RAW, color management, and macro and portrait photography.

Before diving into the sections Fundamentals, Practice and Image Editing in depth, Chapter 00 Quick Start gives you a series of tips and one-liners to help you achieve successful results with your camera eighty percent of the time straight away. The following chapters provide the depth needed to master the remaining twenty percent of the material—an important goal.
