A group photo after dinner. Share it and everyone has a copy. But handing someone a print feels different. The Fujifilm instax Link WIDE 2 puts your smartphone photos onto wide instant film. The new version adds USB-C, faster Bluetooth transfers and a two-tone body.
The idea is still simple: choose a photo on your iPhone or Android phone, set the crop in the instax Link WIDE app and print. There are no ink cartridges: the printer exposes real instant film.
The print comes out after about fourteen seconds. The image then develops in around ninety seconds.
A little wider goes a long way
A group photo needs room. On instax WIDE, faces and surroundings get roughly twice the image area of the smaller prints produced by devices such as the instax mini Link 3. That helps with landscapes too.
The card measures 86 × 108 millimetres, including the white border. Inside it, the image measures 62 × 99 millimetres. Even on a small print, the composition of your smartphone photo matters. It is worth checking the crop: you will want to keep that friend at the edge fully in the picture.
A new look and USB-C
The first Link WIDE arrived in 2021. Its successor replaces micro-USB with USB-C, and the cable comes in the box. According to Fujifilm, Bluetooth 5.1 transfers images from your phone to the printer faster.
The body comes in Duo Beige and Duo Blue and stands upright without a separate stand. The instax logo lights up during printing. Fujifilm rates a full battery at around one hundred prints; charging takes one and a half to two hours.
Mix things up
The new Photo Mixer app feature lets you choose up to six photos. The app cuts out subjects and suggests different collages. Not happy with the result? You can remix up to five times, then move things around and make your own adjustments.
A portrait, the birthday cake and a festive detail can all fit on a single print. You can add text, frames and stickers, but you do not have to. Photo Mixer requires at least iOS 17 or Android 12.
Colour and a little message
You can choose between two colour modes: instax-Rich for bolder colours and instax-Natural for a more understated result. You can also print a still frame from a video.
The QR feature adds a code linking to a website, location, message or sound recording. A holiday photo with its location on a map, for example. Or a birthday photo with a recorded greeting.
Price and availability
The Fujifilm instax Link WIDE 2 is available in Duo Beige and Duo Blue for €174.99 in the Netherlands. Instax WIDE film is not included.
The Link WIDE 2 gives smartphone photos a place beyond the screen, with a little more room for groups and landscapes than instax mini. For owners of the first Link WIDE, some of the new features are already available in the updated app. Moving to the new printer is mainly about USB-C, faster transfers and the different design.
