Tamron introduces the 16-30mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2, an ultra-wide-angle zoom for full-frame mirrorless cameras with Sony E and Nikon Z mounts.
This second-generation model complements the existing 28-75mm F/2.8 G2 and the 70-180mm F/2.8 G2 to complete an F2.8 G2 series spanning focal lengths from 16 to 180mm.
Compared with its predecessor, the zoom range has been expanded, while both optical performance and usability have been further refined. The lens was designed for versatile use, from landscape photography to video production. Support for Tamron Lens Utility software lets users customize functions to their preferences.
The new VXD autofocus motor—fast, quiet, and accurate—makes the lens suitable for a wide range of applications, including action, architecture, and close-ups. Despite its wider range compared with the earlier 17-28mm F/2.8, the compact design has been retained, making the lens an appealing option for travel and everyday use.
The optical design includes XLD, LD, and GM elements for sharp images with natural rendering and smooth background blur. The construction is moisture-resistant, the BBAR-G2 coating reduces reflections, and handling has been further improved with smoother rings and a refined finish.
Price and Availability at the Time of Announcement
At the time of announcement, the Tamron 16-30mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (Model A064) was scheduled for July 31, 2025, for the Sony E mount and for August 22, 2025, for the Nikon Z mount. The suggested retail price quoted at the time, including VAT, was €989.00 for both the Sony E and Nikon Z versions.
