The Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II was introduced as the world’s smallest and lightest F2.8 standard zoom lens in the G Master series and incorporates Sony’s innovative lens technology. The FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II allows content creators to capture sharp, detailed images for both still photography and video.
The lens delivers high resolution across the entire frame, even at a wide aperture. Its optical design consists of five aspherical elements, including two extremely precise XA (extreme aspherical) elements.

The lens also has two ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements and two Super ED glass elements. Combined with a new floating focus mechanism, the lens effectively controls chromatic aberration, astigmatism, and image distortion. This ensures high resolution at every zoom and aperture setting.
Even when shooting in difficult lighting conditions , the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II can effectively reduce flare and ghosting thanks to its anti-reflective coating. Its optical design and newly developed 11-blade aperture unit create nearly perfectly circular bokeh.
Within this 24-70 mm design, the lens also delivers close-up performance, with a minimum focusing distance of 21 cm at 24 mm and 30 cm at 70 mm, plus a maximum magnification of 0.32x.

The FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II provides reliable focusing through four of Sony’s original XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors. The lens has a floating focus mechanism and advanced lens controls, which are also useful when shooting a fast-moving subject. It supports continuous still-image shooting at up to 30 fps and 4K 120p video recording with autofocus.
The lens offers full-AF tracking performance even when shooting stills with the aperture stopped down several stops. This allows content creators to use greater depth of field to keep moving subjects sharply in focus during continuous shooting. AF tracking performance while zooming is approximately twice as fast as on the previous lens model.
The FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II pairs well with Sony’s compact Alpha-system E-mount cameras. The lens weighs just 695 grams, approximately 20% less than the original 24-70 mm F2.8 G Master lens. It is 16 mm shorter and approximately 18% smaller overall.

A redesigned dust- and moisture-resistant construction provides greater reliability in challenging conditions. Rubber gaskets protect the buttons and switches, and a rubber ring seals the lens mount. The front element also has a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants while making dirt and fingerprints easier to wipe away.
The Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II was scheduled to become available in June for approximately €1,100.00.
