The FE 100 mm F2.8 Macro GM OSS lens is Sony's first medium-telephoto macro lens in the G Master series for α (Alpha) E-mount cameras. It offers 1.4x magnification, advanced image stabilization, and intuitive operation.
The maximum 1.4x magnification effortlessly captures flowers, small objects, and other close-up subjects in vivid detail, bringing to life subtle textures and features that are barely visible to the naked eye.
The lens can also be used with a teleconverter (sold separately), providing magnification of up to 2.8x with the 2.0x teleconverter. This makes impressive close-ups possible while maintaining a comfortable distance from the subject. It is ideal for subjects that are difficult to approach outdoors, such as insects, or for avoiding unwanted shadows and reflections.
The lens contains two XA (extreme aspherical) elements and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements, delivering high resolution from the center to the edge of the frame while reducing chromatic and other aberrations.
To enable precise, intuitive focus settings for different macro photography situations, the FE 100 mm F2.8 Macro GM OSS lens has three focusing controls:
• a “Full-time DMF switch” enables direct Manual Focus (MF) by turning the focus ring, even in AF (autofocus) mode;
• the “focus-mode switch” enables direct switching between AF and MF;
• the “sliding focus ring” enables FULL MF mode, linked to the distance and magnification scales.
Four unique XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors provide fast, extremely precise, and quiet lens drive, making autofocus approximately 1.9 times faster than in previous models. A dedicated aperture ring provides quick, direct control over aperture settings.
The circular 11-blade aperture creates soft, round bokeh. Controlled spherical aberration produces an ideal balance between high resolution and background blur, characteristic of the creamy bokeh of the G Master line.
Nano AR Coating II applies a uniformly thin film across the entire lens surface, producing clear image quality that suppresses flare and ghosting, even when shooting against the light.
An integrated Optical SteadyShot (OSS) system designed for macro photographycompensates for shake in the vertical and horizontal directions, as well as angular and forward/backward shift. This is a first for this lens, ensuring stable handheld images.
