Sony Alpha 7C R and Sony Alpha 7C II

Sony Alpha 7C R and 7C II: compact full-frame cameras

Sony releases two new Alpha 7C series cameras: the Alpha 7C R with 61MP high-resolution sensor and the Alpha 7C II with the latest photo and video performance.

The Alpha 7C II has a full-frame image sensor of approximately 33 megapixels. This camera has the latest technology for both photos and videos, but is still small and light. The α7C II is approximately 12 cm wide x 7 cm high x 6 cm deep and weighs approximately 513 grams. This is the second generation of the earlier α7C, and is perfect for travel photos, for example, due to its compact size.

The Alpha 7C R is the latest compact full-frame Sony interchangeable lens camera that features high resolution and rich gradation performance through an image sensor with approximately 61 effective megapixels. This camera shares technology with the Alpha 7R V and is equal in size and weight to the Alpha 7C II. Thanks to the high image quality, it is ideal for various photography, such as portrait, wildlife and landscape photography.

Those who are looking for the same high resolution, but want to work without changing lenses, are more likely to choose the Sony RX1R III: smaller, simpler in design and built around one fixed 35mm f/2 lens.

Both the Alpha 7C II and Alpha 7C R feature the same AI technology and BIONZ XR processors found in Sony's recently launched cameras (Alpha 7R V and Alpha 6700). With the AI-based real-time tracking autofocus, the object recognition accuracy of this camera has also been improved. The 5-axis in-body image stabilization provides a 7-stop advantage in still image capture.

Features Alpha 7C II

  • Full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor with approximately 33 effective megapixels and the latest BIONZ XR processor for high image performance for both photo and video.
  • 22% lighter and up to 45% smaller in size compared to the Alpha 7 IV
  • The standard ISO sensitivity ranges from 100 to 51200 for both photos and video (extended ISO 50 to 204800 for photos), allowing shots with high light sensitivity and minimal noise.

Features Alpha 7C R

  • Full-frame back-side illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor with approximately 61 effective megapixels and the latest BIONZ high-resolution image performance and high definition.
  • Approximately 29% lighter and 53% smaller in size compared to the Alpha 7R V.
  • Standard ISO sensitivity ranges from 100 to 32000 for both stills and video (extended ISO 50 to 102400 for stills).
  • 7.0-stop optical 5-axis in-body image stabilization, detecting and correcting even slight blur at the pixel level.
  • Pixel Shift Multi Shooting that takes multiple images and stitches them together on a computer to create an even higher resolution image.
  • In combination with the grip extension GP-X2 that comes with the Alpha 7C R, the camera fits even better in the hand and you can photograph comfortably and stably.

Both models are easy to use and easy to carry. Equipped with the same AI chip as the α7R V, both cameras recognize subjects with great accuracy thanks to Real-time Recognition AF. Both cameras have intuitive operation with the latest touch menu, and are equipped with a vari-angle LCD screen. Recycled materials are used for the camera housing of the new α7C II and α7C R

With the Alpha 7C II and Alpha 7C R, oversampling of 7K and 6K respectively can be used to shoot high-quality 4K videos.
