The brand new Sony Alpha 6700 brings together the image and video recording capabilities of the recent Alpha and Cinema Line cameras, housed in the compact, lightweight form factor of the α6000 series.
This camera, equipped with the latest Exmor R APS-C CMOS image sensor with approximately 26 megapixels and the advanced BIONZ XR processor, delivers exceptionally beautiful image results. Thanks to an ISO range of 100 to 32,000 for both stills and video, low-noise shots can be taken even in low light.
Due to its larger size, an APS-C sensor can collect more light in total than a smaller sensor with comparable technology. This results in less image noise and a shallower depth of field than a smaller sensor that takes a photo with the same focal length, f-stop, aperture and ISO.
BIONZ XR is used in many Sony α DSLR and mirrorless cameras. In-camera image processing converts the raw data from a CCD or CMOS image sensor into the format stored on the memory card. This processing is one of the bottlenecks in the speed of digital cameras, so manufacturers have put a lot of effort into creating and marketing the fastest processors for this step.
The α6700 inherits the AI chip from the Alpha 7R V, resulting in highly accurate Real-Time Recognition AF (autofocus). In addition to the recognition of people and animals, known from the α6000 series, this camera can now also easily recognize other objects such as birds, insects, cars, trains and airplanes.
When the camera is used with the recently launched FE 70-200MM F4 Macro G OSS II telephoto zoom lens, the Alpha 6700 offers a focal length of 105mm to 300mm, equivalent to 35mm full-frame.
The α6700 is compact (approx. 12 cm x 7 cm x 8 cm) and light (approx. 493 g), and is equipped with an easy-to-use, tilting LCD monitor with touchscreen. It has a customizable dial on the front and a selection button for photography, film and S&Q.
The α6700 features 5-axis in-body image stabilization with a 5.0-stop shutter speed advantage for photos, and an Active Mode for stable video recording.
In terms of connectivity, the camera can now use the Creators' App to upload photos and videos to cloud services. Sony also hopes to introduce a new "Camera Remote SDK" in July 2023, allowing you to adjust controls and settings remotely.
The α6700 camera body actively uses recycled materials, which reduces the burden on the environment without sacrificing functionality. Furthermore, the camera has a screen reader function that can read menus and video screens aloud, supporting a wide range of creators.
