Ten years after he began his career as a professional photographer, one of Bastiaan Woudt’s greatest dreams—publishing a major collected volume—has come true. Rhythm by Bastiaan Woudt is a signed, 10-year retrospective available with two covers: Carlos and Rhythm.
Rhythm brings together commissioned work and photographs from his private archive.

The book is a self-reflective document published by 1605 Publishers, Woudt’s own publishing house. He describes the process of selecting, recreating and revisiting ten years of such personal work during the pandemic as a cathartic experience. "My creative evolution, who I am now and where I am going as a photographer, is now encapsulated in exactly five hundred pages."
'Rhythm' is a recurring theme in his life and photographs
The rhythm of the book is driven by the relationship between the image you see and the image that follows. It is not organized by series, but selected purely according to how one image “speaks” to another. It is a personal journey through Woudt’s own oeuvre, career highlights, projects he has undertaken and people he has had the privilege of meeting.
All selected and edited by Bastiaan.

The concept of 'rhythm' is a recurring theme in his life and photographs. Woudt sees rhythm in the lines and pages of a book. He sees rhythm in silhouettes, shapes and people. He sees rhythm between black and white.
With charcoal tones and elegant compositions, his photography feels like stepping into a modern painting
"My hope is that this document will not be regarded as a reflection of a particular time, but that it will be seen as an ever-growing entity, one that can continually be added to and may even be republished in the years to come."
