Two new Canon RF lenses for those who like to work wide: Canon presents the RF 7–14mm F2.8–3.5L Fisheye STM and the RF 14mm F1.4L VCM. Both L-series, but with a completely different character.
The RF 7–14mm is made for images that immediately stand out. On full-frame, at 7mm you get a circular fisheye image (up to 190°) and at 14mm a full-frame diagonal fisheye image. Another practical feature: Canon uses a drop-in filter system, useful when you want to quickly switch between creative looks and control over exposure.
The RF 14mm f/1.4 is designed for photographers who want to keep straight lines and still look for maximum aperture. Think night, astrophotography, interiors, and architecture, where 14mm + f/1.4 can be a nice combination, and Canon emphasizes that the lens is also designed for hybrid photo/video.
RF 7–14mm F2.8–3.5L Fisheye STM: 190° and drop-in filters
This is a special lens: on full frame it delivers two looks. At 7mm you get a circular fisheye image with an angle of view up to 190°, and at 14mm a full-frame diagonal fisheye image (180°). On APS-C, the maximum wide angle can be set to approx 8.7mm for a full-frame diagonal fisheye look.
Canon also includes a drop-in filter system so that you can (optionally) quickly switch between, for example, a circular polarizing filter or variable ND. The lens is designed to be versatile: from action sports and landscapes to astrophotography and expressive portraits. With a minimum focusing distance of 0.15 m you can also work extremely close for extra exaggeration and impact.
For video, Canon mentions, among other things, a silent STM autofocus and focus breathing suppression. Footage captured with a compatible camera can also be converted into 2D 180° VR files via EOS VR Utility.

RF 14mm F1.4L VCM: ultra-fast and razor-sharp right into the corners
The RF 14mm F1.4L VCM is Canon's new ultra-wide-angle prime for makers who want to work wide with an extremely large aperture. With a diagonal angle of view of 114° this is a lens for landscapes, interiors and architecture, but also for night photography and astro, where a large maximum aperture helps keep shutter speeds short.
Despite the combination of 14mm and f/1.4, the lens remains relatively compact and intended to be taken with you. Canon is also clearly committed to hybrid use: with focus breathing suppression, smooth operation and additional functions that are interesting for video production.

Do you prefer to work with straight lines and do you especially want light intensity and corner-to-corner quality for astro, interior and... architecture? Then the RF 14mm f/1.4 the more “serious” ultra-wide-angle prime.
