Nikon announced the finalists for the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards 2025. That year’s selection consisted of forty standalone photographs, three portfolio entries and ten video entries, offering an engaging mix of inspiring and delightfully funny images that remind us of the world’s most enchanting wildlife.
The colourful contenders for the funniest wildlife image of 2025 included a dancing gorilla, a chorus of lions and a quick-thinking frog on the lookout.
Founded in 2015 by photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE and Tom Sullam, the awards combine exceptional wildlife photography with the power of humour to draw attention to conservation. Every photograph is authentic, with no use of AI or digital manipulation.
The judges ultimately selected Mark Meth-Cohn’s photograph High Five as the overall winner.
The world’s most entertaining wildlife photography competition received a record number of entries that year. Nearly 10,000 entries were submitted from 109 countries, all competing for the top prizes, including the Nikon Z6III full-frame mirrorless camera, the Nikon Z50II mirrorless camera and Nikon | RED’s brand-new compact cinema camera, the ZR.
The winner also received a unique one-week safari courtesy of Alex Walker’s Serian in the Masai Mara, as well as some of the photography industry’s best-selling backpacks from ThinkTANK.
The overall winner, category winners and honourable mentions were announced on Tuesday, 9 December, during a special awards ceremony in London. A free exhibition was then scheduled from 10 to 16 December, where Nikon was due to present the award finalists of 2025 at Gallery@Oxo.
