With Hasselblad Heroines Hasselblad continues to celebrate the achievements of women photographers around the world. Over eight weeks, a new heroine was spotlighted each week to share her career experiences, challenges in the industry, and artistic inspiration through short video interviews. The 2021 series began on International Women’s Day, March 8, with its first Hasselblad Heroine Flora Borsi.
By highlighting these talented creatives, Hasselblad Heroines hopes to encourage the next generation of women photographers to go against the grain and bring their creative visions to life.
The Hasselblad Heroines 2021 lineup features the following eight photographers:
- Hungarian visual artist Flora Borsi, who can transform herself into almost anything through self-portraits that evoke surreal dreams and emotions;
- Slovak beauty and portrait photographer Andrea Zvadova, based in London, whose photography showcases unconventional beauty, diversity, and individuality;
- 2016 Hasselblad Master in Fine Art Katerina Belkina, based in Berlin, who explores human emotions and inner processes using techniques at the intersection of photography and digital painting;
- Landscape photographer Isabella Tabacchi, based in northern Italy, who expresses her emotions by capturing the magic of the landscapes she explores;
- Self-taught portrait photographer Alissa Ashley, based in Los Angeles, whose artistic passion and professional work in makeup flow naturally into the sublime color compositions in her portraits;
- Norwegian fine-art artist Anja Niemi, based in the Netherlands, whose staged images use subtle nuances to tell complex stories in which she is both author and character;
- London-based portrait and documentary photographer Jillian Edelstein, whose work includes more than one hundred photographs in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery;
- Street photographer Nina Welch-Kling who is fascinated by capturing the unexpected interactions of light, shadow, and subjects in New York City.
