Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 – Large-Format Cinema Camera

Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 – Large-Format Cinema Camera

With the introduction of the Fujifilm GFX100 series, the brand took a major step into the world of high-end photography. Its large 102-megapixel sensor delivered stunning sharpness and detail, allowing photographers to create images distinguished by remarkable depth and color rendition. That same sensor now forms the basis of a new addition to the Fujifilm family: the GFX ETERNA 55, a camera designed not for photography, but entirely for film production.

What makes this camera special is the large sensor familiar from the GFX line. This remains a rarity in the filmmaking world. The sensor gives images a distinctive cinematic look, with smooth color transitions and an abundance of detail. It gives filmmakers access to image quality that was previously found mainly at the top end of the cinema industry.

Flexible Control of Light and Color

The GFX ETERNA 55 is designed to give creatives as much freedom as possible. Thanks to its wide dynamic range, the camera can capture plenty of nuance in both bright sunlight and dark interiors. Highlights are preserved, while shadow areas retain rich detail.

Fujifilm adds its own color science, familiar from its popular Film Simulations. This gives footage a compelling look straight out of the camera, while still allowing further refinement in post-production if desired.

Designed for the Set

The still cameras in the GFX line differ from the ETERNA 55, which was built with a film set in mind. Its rugged design, robust connection points and ability to work with external recorders make the camera suitable for professional productions.

Practical features such as a built-in variable ND filter let filmmakers respond quickly to changing light without constantly swapping separate filters. Ease of use has also been considered: the camera has a bright articulating display and a clear control layout.

Who Is the GFX ETERNA 55 For?

The ETERNA 55 is clearly not an entry-level model. With its large sensor, professional connectivity and price tag, Fujifilm is targeting creators who produce films to demanding quality standards. These include feature films, advertising campaigns and high-end documentaries. For this group, the camera offers an appealing alternative to established cinema brands, with Fujifilm’s distinctive look as an added advantage.

A New Direction for Fujifilm

With this introduction, Fujifilm shows that the brand is broadening its horizons. While the GFX series won over photographers with exceptional detail and color, the ETERNA line aims to do the same for filmmakers. The proven GFX100 sensor inspires confidence in image quality, while the new body and features meet the practical demands of a film set.

Price and Availability

At launch, initial shipments were expected in October 2025. The U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail price was set at $16,499.95 for the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55.
