Exclusive Leica M Edition 70

Leica M Edition 70: Anniversary Set Celebrating 70 Years of Leica M

To mark 70 years of the Leica M system, the Leica M Edition 70 was produced as an exclusive special edition limited to just two hundred and fifty sets. It is an exceptional collector’s item, and not only for discerning purists.

When the Leica M3 was introduced in 1954, exactly seven decades earlier, it laid the foundation for the M system that continues today and opened a new chapter in photographic history. Its unique rangefinder set the standard, and the M system has evolved continuously ever since.

The legendary Leica M6 introduced integrated exposure metering; other Leica MP models were tailored specifically to press photography. The Leica M9 was the world’s first digital full-frame rangefinder camera, while the M (Typ 240) was the first M with a CMOS sensor and the first production model without a window for illuminating the viewfinder frames.

The Leica M Monochrom then revolutionized digital black-and-white photography. With no display, the Leica M-D was the first digital M that truly felt like an analog camera. The current model, the M11, provides direct access to the battery and features a Triple Resolution sensor with resolutions of 60, 36 and 18 megapixels.

The Leica M system has always remained compatible with older products while staying ready for the future. The Leica M11-P is the world’s first camera capable of verifying the authenticity of digital images through the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI). This focus on the essentials, combined with Leica’s superb craftsmanship, ensures quality and consistency—values central to the brand’s identity.

A later step in that development is the Leica M EV1, which combines the M system with an integrated electronic viewfinder for the first time.

The Limited Special Edition: “Leica M Edition 70”

Limited to just 250 sets, the platinum-coated special edition combines classic elegance and precision craftsmanship, pairing the iconic design of the legendary Leica M3 with modern Leica M-system technology.

The “Leica M Edition 70” is not only a tribute to the history of the Leica M system, but also an investment in the future of analog photography. Its timeless design, proven craftsmanship and luxurious platinum coating make the set a coveted item for discerning photographers and collectors.

At its announcement, the “Leica M Edition 70” was scheduled to become available in very limited quantities in early 2025, priced at €22,500.00 including VAT.
