To mark 70 years of the Leica M system, the Leica M Edition 70 was produced as an exclusive special edition with a limited run of only two hundred and fifty sets. This is a unique collector's item par excellence and not just for discerning purists.
When the Leica M3 was introduced exactly seven decades ago and laid the foundation for the still existing M system, a new chapter in photography history began. Introduced in 1954, the Leica M3 set the tone with its unique rangefinder and the M system has been continuously developed since then.

The legendary Leica M6 was characterized by the integrated exposure metering, other Leica MP models were specially tailored to press photography, the Leica M9 was the world's first digital full-frame rangefinder camera and the M (Typ 240) was the first with a CMOS sensor and the first series model without a window for illuminating the viewfinder frames.
The Leica M Monochrom then revolutionized digital black-and-white photography, the Leica M-D was the first digital M that really felt like an analog camera, namely due to the lack of a display, the current model, the M11, offers direct access to the battery and has a Triple Resolution sensor with resolutions of 60, 36 and 18 Megapixels.
The Leica M system has always remained compatible with older products and ready for the future. So is the Leica M11-P the world's first camera that can verify the authenticity of digital images thanks to the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI). This focus on the essentials, combined with Leica's perfect craftsmanship, guarantees quality and consistency. Values that are central to the brand identity.
A later step in that development is the Leica M EV1, where Leica combines the M system with an integrated electronic viewfinder for the first time.
