With the Canon EOS R6 V, Canon introduces a new full-frame mirrorless camera clearly aimed at hybrid content creators. The camera combines extensive video capabilities with fast photography performance in a relatively compact body.
With the EOS R6 V, Canon further expands its video-focused EOS V series. Notably, the camera combines a stacked sensor with features such as Open Gate recording, 7K RAW video, and fast burst photography.
Notably, the “V” does not indicate a new generation of the EOS R6, but Canon’s new video-focused creator series.
Designed for both video and photography
The EOS R6 V features a full-frame sensor and supports 7K RAW video at up to 60 frames per second. It can also record oversampled 4K footage at up to 60p and shoot 4K 120p for slow motion.
For photographers, the camera offers a resolution of 32.5 megapixels and burst speeds of up to 40 frames per second with the electronic shutter. It also includes pre-continuous shooting, which captures images before the shutter button is fully pressed.
Compact body with image stabilization
According to Canon, this is the brand’s smallest full-frame camera with in-body image stabilization. The EOS R6 V weighs approximately 688 grams and features 5-axis in-body image stabilization designed to provide up to 7.5 stops of compensation.
The camera is clearly designed for handheld use. Its vari-angle screen, vertical tripod mount, and separate front record button are aimed primarily at vloggers, solo creators, and mobile videographers.
Open Gate and flexible workflows
One of its most notable features is support for Open Gate recording. This uses the entire sensor, allowing videographers to easily create different crops later for horizontal and vertical content.
This aligns with the current workflow of creators who produce content simultaneously for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms.
Autofocus with subject recognition
Canon again uses its Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system with subject detection for people, animals, and vehicles, a technology also found in cameras such as the Canon EOS R8. Eye Detection is designed to provide accurate focus on eyes, even with moving subjects.
Register People Priority also lets users register up to ten people who receive autofocus priority.
Also suitable for longer recordings
Canon positions the camera not only for short-form content, but also for longer productions such as podcasts, interviews, and livestreams. The EOS R6 V therefore features active cooling, dual-card recording, and support for four-channel audio.
Via USB-C, the camera can also be used directly as a 4K 60p webcam.
New power zoom lens
Alongside the camera, Canon also introduces the Canon RF 20-50mm F4L IS USM PZ. This full-frame RF lens features integrated power zoom and was developed specifically for videographers and hybrid creators.

The Canon EOS R6 V will have a suggested retail price of approximately € 1,995 and is expected to be available starting June 24.
