Photography Café Kasteel Woerden offered a varied programme for photography enthusiasts.
18.00 hrs: Photographers' dinner in the Van Ommeren Room at the castle.
The evening began at 19.30 hrs with Fotoplaza as the opening act.
20.00 hrs: The main guest was Ilvy Njiokiktjien.
Ilvy Njiokiktjien is known for her committed, long-term projects and her keen eye for humanity in complex stories. During the evening, she took the audience through her acclaimed series Born Free, in which she follows young people in post-apartheid South Africa. She explained how this report came about through her own family’s migration background.
The programme then turned to Climate Safer Havens, a series in which Ilvy explores how people around the world deal with climate change and forced displacement. Ilvy also spoke about her personal project about her grandfather, Louis Njiokiktjien, who was born on Ambon and eventually settled in the Netherlands.
During the talk, Ilvy offered a unique insight into her working methods, including the personal encounters behind her photographs.
The evening was from 21.15 hrs brought to a close with portfolio reviews by four professional photographers and The Long Table.
The reviewers have many years of experience in the world of photography and extensive experience as coaches and mentors. Their advice gave visitors practical guidance for getting even more out of their photographic work.
