Galerie Persoon presents a solo exhibition by the Belgian photographer Robby Bolleyn from November 5 to December 17, 2022. The exhibition Africa Sauvage shows thirty graceful, compelling portraits of inhabitants and wild animals. The serene black and white photos present what the photographer regards as an authentic view of Africa.
Robby Bolleyn has a lifelong fascination with the vast African continent and its formidable, breathtaking beauty. Together with his Dutch wife Marleen, he travels there for several months every year to photograph the wild nature and its inhabitants, people and animals.
It is essential for him to capture the spiritual identity of his subject. With a great eye for detail and tradition, the photographer pays tribute to rugged Africa, his Africa.
For the exhibition Africa Sauvage Bolleyn made a selection of images that represent what he sees as an authentic, unspoilt Africa symbolize. Members of different tribes, often scarred by their harsh living conditions, face his camera with pride. In addition to ancient peoples surviving in desolate Ethiopia, Swahili fishermen with weathered facial expressions and local women from Zanzibar can be seen.
The graceful close-ups of a striking cheetah, lion, elephant and zebra, especially in the Serengeti, are moving and awe-inspiring at the same time.
Robby Bolleyn (Antwerp, 1966) studied marketing, nature education and photography. After this he worked as an office manager at the World Wildlife Fund. He eventually followed his heart and became a professional photographer. Since 2011, Bolleyn has lived on a farm in Burgundy, France. The visual artist's autonomous work has been presented in galleries and at art fairs such as the Affordable Art Fair Hampstead in London, Art Breda, KunstRAI, PAN Amsterdam and Rotterdam Contemporary.
The gallery is located in the attractive Domain Oogenlust in Eersel, Brabant.
