The photo book Saltwater people by photographer Friso Kooijman has been published and is available in (online) bookstores. Published by Lecturis and designed by Mattmo Creative, this authentic photo book with powerful black and white photos & shows special stories of the people who sail the sea or are directly connected to it.
The book is his ode to the people of the sea. With compelling black-and-white images and personal stories of saltwater people, photographer Friso Kooijman, himself a saltwater person, exposes the soul of a world that remains hidden to many.
From the shipyard to the demolition, from the captain to the forklift driver: every photo and every story breathes the passion, hard work and cooperation that characterize life on and around seagoing vessels.

Saltwater people is more than a photo book. It is a visual tribute to the men and women who sail the seas, build, repair and maintain ships, and keep the maritime sector running.
Friso Kooijman, who worked in shipping and shipbuilding after studying at the Maritime College, brings together his two greatest passions with this book: the world of seagoing vessels and photography. Because he is a saltwater person himself, he was able to get very close and this is clearly reflected in the high-contrast black and white photos.
“I wanted to show the faces and stories of the people I know so well. People who work hard, trust each other and work together to achieve their goals. Their world deserves recognition and imagination.”

The book was designed by the renowned design agency Mattmo Creative from Amsterdam, published by Lecturis from Eindhoven and the lithography, printing and binding was provided by Wilco Art Books.
The combination of Kooijman's penetrating and documentary-looking photography and the strong graphic design Saltwater people into a unique and timeless coffee table book and a true experience for the reader.
