In 2020, Hasselblad highlighted female photographers for the second consecutive year under the title Hasselblad Heroines. The first episode launched on March 8, International Women’s Day, featuring the first Hasselblad Heroine, Swee Oh. Across seven weekly episodes, each photographer shared her career experiences, the challenges of working in a typically male-dominated industry, and her sources of inspiration through short video interviews.

By bringing these talented creatives to the fore, Hasselblad Heroines hoped to encourage the next generation of female photographers to forge their own paths and bring their creative visions to life.

The 2020 Hasselblad Heroines lineup featured the following seven photographers:

  • 2016 Hasselblad Master in Architecture Swee Oh of San Francisco, California, whose professional background in architecture influences her artistic perspective;
  • Hasselblad Ambassador Julia Fullerton-Batten of London, a fine-art photographer known for her highly cinematic visual narratives;
  • 2014 Hasselblad Master in Fashion/Beauty Bara Prasilova of Prague, whose conceptual images depict surreal scenes with carefully selected props and costumes;

  • Hasselblad X You Grand Prize winner Clarissa Bonet of Chicago, Illinois, a fine-art photographer who portrays urban space from the pedestrian’s perspective;
  • 2016 Hasselblad Master in Portrait Natalia Evelyn Bencicova of Bratislava, whose work consists of immersive narrative scenarios that blur the boundaries between reality, memory, and imagination;
  • Italian fine-art photographer Chiara Zonca of Vancouver, British Columbia, who explores some of Earth’s most distinctive landscapes and captures forms that feel otherworldly.

“Last year, we received many positive responses to the Hasselblad Heroines series, so we are continuing to encourage artists who represent genuine creative ingenuity,” said Marketing Manager Bronius Rudnickas.
