Who are you really when you cannot hide behind clothing or a carefully constructed image? What remains when the mask disappears? Photographer and artist Richard Westerhuis explores these questions in experimental portrait series such as Rubber Identity,Through The Second SkinandWhanganui.
Since 2016, Richard Westerhuis has portrayed his models in complete freedom and vulnerability—outside their comfort zones and without clothing or a constructed public image. He explores their true identities and, in doing so, reaches the core of each individual. Who are you really, and how much of yourself do you show to others?

Unfolding Ambiguity is central to Richard Westerhuis's work and inspired the title of his book. This beautiful photo book presents all six of his conceptual portrait series, which have been exhibited in the Netherlands and abroad and have received several awards.
“As an art photographer, the best way to convey my message is not through a single photo but through a series. A complete series built around one underlying theme conveys that message most powerfully.” —Richard Westerhuis.
