A Road Trip Along the Dutch Coast Guarantees Beautiful Photos!
As an amateur photographer, you already know that the Netherlands has plenty of beauty to offer. People often assume they need to travel far abroad for remarkable images, but nothing could be further from the truth. Places in our own country can be astonishingly beautiful, and nature offers something different in every season. The Dutch coast is one of those destinations with something worth photographing year-round.

Do you have time to spare, or does your portfolio need fresh work? Get in the car and explore one of the beautiful driving routes along the Dutch coast. It is sure to yield great photographs.
You decide where to stop, of course, but we have mapped out a scenic route from south to north. Remember to check your car insurance before setting out, so you can travel safely while looking for the perfect location.
Ouddorp, Zeeland
We begin at the southern end of the Dutch coast, in Zeeland. Thousands of tourists have vacationed here for years, and it is also popular with Dutch visitors. That is no surprise: the area offers abundant natural beauty.
Ouddorp has a pleasant hotel where you can stay while searching for the best photograph. The beach is within easy walking distance, making it a fine place to enjoy the sea air. Visit at different times of day; the beach often looks especially dramatic in the evening.

The area around Ouddorp’s beach also offers many other attractions, with nature taking center stage throughout Zeeland. Enjoy the autumn colours in fall, the first green shoots in spring, the restrained yet atmospheric look of a winter landscape, and the bright optimism of summer sunshine. Resourceful photographers will find plenty of challenges and opportunities.
From Zeeland to Wassenaar
Wassenaar is easy to reach by car from Zealand; you can be there within an hour. The drive itself is also worthwhile, especially if you take the scenic route. The landscapes and coastline along the way are breathtaking.
Wassenaar is ideal if you want to combine beautiful scenery with a little luxury. Several accommodations offer a comfortable stay by the sea.
Wassenaar’s central location is another advantage. Explore the surrounding countryside by bicycle or car, or take a trip to The Hague, Delft, and Leiden. Each can be reached within half an hour. Alongside beautiful scenery, these cities offer cultural attractions that are well worth visiting if your road trip allows time.

Finish in North Holland
Complete the coastal route at the northern tip of North Holland, close to the sea. Visit the Schoorl Dunes nature reserve, for example, where you are sure to find excellent places to photograph. The surrounding area offers beautiful dunes, forests, and heathland—far too good to miss.
Extra Tip: visit the heathland in September, when it is in full bloom. It is perfect for family portraits or simply for adding beautiful images to your portfolio. There are many heathland areas along the coast.
