Tamron is expanding its full-frame system camera lineup with the Tamron 35-100mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A078). This bright standard zoom is designed for photographers who do a lot of portrait and travel work and would like to cover a large part of their day with one compact lens: from 35mm for atmosphere and environment to 100mm for close-ups and classic portraits.
Compact design
On paper, what is most noticeable is the size. With a length of 119.2 mm and a weight of 565 grams, the 35-100mm f/2.8 remains remarkably handy for a constant f/2.8 zoom. Yet Tamron has fitted it with an advanced optical design with 15 elements in 13 groups, including XLD, LD and GM elements. The aim is to suppress chromatic aberration and deliver high resolution throughout the zoom range.

The lens design was also created with bokeh in mind. Thanks to the combination of focal length and wide aperture, you can separate subjects nicely from the background—useful for portraits, but just as good for travel details.
For difficult lighting situations, Tamron uses its BBAR-G2 coating to limit ghosting and flare in backlight, promising high contrast and consistent image quality from 35 to 100mm, even in high-contrast scenes.
Ready for the road
Tamron focuses explicitly on practical use. The lens has a moisture-resistant construction with seals throughout the tube. The front lens element has a fluorine coating that repels moisture and oil, making cleaning easier.

Also nice: the uniform filter size of 67mm. Anyone who already uses Tamron zooms can exchange filters more often without having to continually purchase new sizes.
Fast AF and close-up
For autofocus, Tamron uses the VXD linear motor mechanism, intended for fast and precise focusing for portraits and moving subjects. In addition, there is a short focusing distance: in the wide-angle position you can focus as close as 22 cm.
This makes creative close-ups - such as food, nature and travel details - a lot easier, without having to immediately reach for an extra lens.

Sony/Nikon
The Tamron 35-100mm f/2.8 is available for Sony E and Nikon Z and is designed to work well with the functions of both systems. Consider support for modern AF functions (such as eye detection) and in-camera corrections for vignetting, distortion and chromatic aberration.
Lens Utility 5.0 and TAMRON LINK
The lens is compatible with TAMRON Lens Utility 5.0 (for iOS, Android and PC/Mac). This allows you to adjust the behavior of compatible Tamron lenses for both photo and video, without additional equipment.
In version 5.0, features have been added such as focus/iris markings, a focus ring stopper, adjustable rotation angle for focus and aperture, time-lapse with focus shift, astro focus lock (with fine-tuning) and a black/red night mode in the app.

Also new is TAMRON LINK: an accessory that you place in the USB port of the lens, so that you can wirelessly operate compatible Tamron lenses on location via the Lens Utility app on your smartphone.
