Tamron's new 17-50mm F4 for Sony mirrorless cameras is an ultra-wide-angle zoom with a constant aperture of F4 for ultra-wide-angle to standard focal lengths. This lens zooms from 17mm ultra-wide angle to 50mm standard. A zoom range that is ideal for both photos and video recording.
This lens delivers high sharpness from edge to edge. The lens has a VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear focusing mechanism with quiet and dynamic performance and super-fast and accurate autofocus.

The physical length of the lens does not change while zooming. It is suitable for taking photos and for video recording as it is easy to balance even if it is on a gimbal or other equipment is used.
A number of features
Zoom lens from ultra-wide angle to standard at constant aperture F4
No need to change lenses: users can zoom from 17mm ultra-wide angle for dynamic expressions, to snapshots with the standard 50mm focal length, an angle of view close to that of the human eye. In addition, the wide open aperture of F4 is fixed throughout the zoom range, keeping the exposure constant when zooming in and out.
High optical performance and image quality throughout the zoom range
The new 17-50mm lens efficiently suppresses chromatic and other optical aberrations, ensuring fine detail from edge to edge is clearly captured in all shots.

The lens also delivers a very nice bokeh at the open F4 aperture. This creates attractive ones landscape photos, in which subjects such as trees and flowers in seasonal colors stand out against the background.
Compact for easy use and an internal zoom for excellent balance
The 17-50mm F4 weighs just 460 grams and is 114.4mm long, a form factor that is well balanced on a Sony mirrorless camera body. The lens has an internal zoom mechanism that keeps the objective tube at a fixed length. This makes it easy to balance when taking photo or video recordings, or in combination with a rig or gimbal.
The new zoom has a moisture-resistant construction and a fluorine coating, which is useful for active scenarios such as mountain climbing or other outdoor activities.

Fast and accurate AF for photo and video recording
The AF drive of the 17-50mm F4 uses the VXD linear motor mechanism for focusing. Thanks to the fast and accurate focusing on moving subjects photographers can quickly switch to a higher shooting speed.
The silent operation during focusing also makes the lens suitable for taking pictures with little noise in quiet environments.
Excellent close-up shooting performance for greater versatility
This lens has a short minimum focusing distance of 19 cm in the wide-angle position and 30 cm in the 50 mm position. The working distance at 17mm is 5.7cm, closer than most prime lenses. Photographers can get very close to the subject and magnify the foreground against a blurred background. They can also focus easily without having to change their shooting position.

The new 17-50 mm F4 zoom is the ideal "walk around" lens and offers a high degree of mobility and ease of use. It makes it possible to take different types of shots, both still and video, from vast landscapes to snapshots, without having to change lenses.
