The new book Steve McCurry: A Life in Pictures is the largest collection of Steve McCurry's images in a single volume. It was written and compiled by Bonnie McCurry, Steve's sister and president of the McCurry Foundation, who has supported his work from the beginning.
Steve McCurry: A Life in Pictures brings together all of McCurry's major adventures: from his earliest photojournalism in the aftermath of the 1977 Johnstown flood to his breakthrough first trip to Afghanistan concealed among the Mujahideen, his many journeys through India and Pakistan, his coverage of the end of the Gulf War in 1991 and the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York, and his more recent work.

With more than 350 images in total, the selection includes over 100 previously unpublished photographs alongside his best-known work. It also features personal notes, telegrams, tickets, and mementos from his travels and assignments, all accompanied by insights from Bonnie McCurry—based on her unique relationship with Steve—and reflections from many of Steve's friends and colleagues.
Bonnie McCurry: “Steve's body of work is a testament to a life behind the lens, with all the technical skill that entails—but, more than anything, Steve's work reflects his profound humanity, his determination to approach people in their own surroundings by walking miles in their shoes, across minefields or through chest-deep monsoon floodwaters. He is the kind of photographer who can tell an entire story in a single shot.

Many of Steve's photographs were made in dangerous and violent places. Even so, they celebrate life and attest to an indomitable human resilience and cultural strength that bring people together, however difficult their lives may be, creating solidarity and joy.”
“What is important to my work is the individual picture. I photograph stories on assignment, and of course they have to be put together coherently. But what matters most is that each picture stand on its own, with its own place and feeling.” - Steve McCurry
