Sony's 16-35mm GM II - a small and light wide-angle zoom lens

In addition to the standard zoom lens (24-70 mm) and telephoto lens (70-200 mm), Sony is expanding its second generation of lenses with the new Sony 16-35mm G Master II wide-angle zoom lens, a 35mm full-frame Alpha E-mount lens with focal lengths from 16mm to 35mm, covering a maximum aperture of F2.8 over the entire zoom range.

The 16-35mm GM II delivers high performance with its fast AF (unique to G Master). Moreover, this lens can be used for different shots.

Due to the (extremely) aspherical shape of the design, this lens offers a high resolution and the maximum aperture of F2.8.

The lens also offers beautiful bokeh options and perfect close-up performance over the entire zoom range with a minimum focus distance of 0.22m and a maximum recording magnification of 0.32x. Nano AR Coating II suppresses ghosting and flares to capture clear images, even when a strong light source comes into view.

The lens has a total length of 111.5 mm and with a weight of 547 grams it is approximately 20% lighter than the 16-35mm GM.

The 16-35mm GM II is suitable for professional and advanced photographers and videographers. Compared to previous models, focus breathing is less and it is possible to achieve a high quality of image expression without changes in the angle of view.

In addition, this lens suppresses the movement of the center of gravity during zooming and enables stable recordings, so you can film comfortably with a gimbal. Controls have also been improved with features such as an aperture ring that can be clicked on/off with a switch and two customizable buttons.

Dirt that adheres to the lens surface can be easily removed by the fluorine coating. Thanks to the dust- and splash-proof design, you can also use the camera safely outdoors.

Price and availability
The new one 16-35mm GM II will be available from September for €2,700. ​The 16-35mm GM will drop in price from €2,700 to €2,500.
