New to the Sony Cinema Line family is the FX2 (model ILME-FX2). The Sony FX2 gives independent creators and crews who need a versatile camera more options for cinematic expression.
The FX2 was developed in response to customer feedback and designed as an accessible full-frame cinema camera with new features that enhance the filmmaking experience. A standout feature is the new tiltable viewfinder, which significantly improves usability and meets production requirements.
The FX2 features a full-frame sensor that delivers a distinctive image quality with natural depth of field. The 33.0-megapixel back-illuminated Exmor R sensor provides ample detail, even in changing lighting conditions. With a dynamic range of more than 15 stops using S-Log3, it retains plenty of information in both shadows and highlights.
The FX2 has Dual Base ISO settings of 800 and 4000 when using S-Log3. This makes the camera well suited to a wide range of lighting situations. For video, the ISO can be expanded to 102400, which is useful in low light.
The FX2 also supports several recording formats, including XAVC S-I in DCI 4K (24.00p), and records in 4:2:2 10-bit All-Intra—ideal for anyone who wants flexibility in post-production.
Thanks to a built-in fan and intelligent heat dissipation, the FX2 can record for up to 13 consecutive hours in 4K 60p. The camera supports variable frame rates, with recording at up to 60 fps in 4K (for 2.5x slow motion) and up to 120 fps in Full HD (for 5x slow motion).
For Log recording, Cine EI, Cine EI Quick, and Flexible ISO are available, so you can choose the option that best suits your workflow. You can also import up to 16 custom LUTs, which helps with color control during shooting.
The FX2 includes S-Cinetone as standard for a cinematic look, along with various picture profiles and Creative Looks for quickly selecting a suitable style. For users working with anamorphic lenses, a desqueeze function supports 1.3x and 2.0x, allowing precise framing directly in the camera.
The camera shares the same compact, flat design as Sony’s Cinema Line FX3 and FX30 cameras. Its lightweight, portable design—with dimensions of 129.7 x 77.8 x 103.7 mm and a weight of approximately 679 grams—makes it ideal for solo operators or small production teams.
The camera features Active Mode and Dynamic Active Mode, the latter being a new function for the Cinema Line. Both modes are designed to ensure smooth, stable handheld footage.
The FX2 Auto Framing function automatically crops and tracks a subject, keeping it prominently visible when the camera is mounted on a tripod. This makes it possible to produce footage that looks as though it was captured by an experienced camera operator. The Framing Stabilizer function automatically keeps your subject in the same position within the frame, which can be useful, for example, when moving alongside the subject
For still images, the camera offers an additional Log recording option through a newly added ‘Log Shooting’ menu. This feature allows creators to select high-resolution 33 MP still images optimized for color correction in post-production.
The FX2 also offers smooth operation with a MOVIE/STILL mode switch, allowing users to quickly switch between taking photos and recording videos.
Hardware
The camera is equipped with a new, tiltable, high-resolution 3.68-million-dot EVF (Electronic Viewfinder), with a viewing angle optimized for video production and a deep eyepiece. It also features a tiltable 3.0-type touchscreen LCD for easy framing from any position.
In response to the growing amount of content recorded in vertical 16:9 format for social media platforms, the FX2 also displays vertical information while recording. In addition, the model with grip (ILME-FX2) comes with two XLR/TRS inputs and a 3.5 mm microphone mini jack for professional 4-channel, 24-bit digital audio input.
The FX2 is well equipped for expansion and connectivity. Via HDMI Type-A, it can output 4K 60p 10-bit video or 16-bit RAW. The camera supports dual-band Wi-Fi and wired LAN (via an adapter) for remote operation and data transfer. It also has a USB-C port with 10 Gbps transfer speeds and Power Delivery support, plus options for livestreaming and network production directly from the camera.

The Sony FX2 is available as a body for approximately €3,200 and as a kit with XLR handle for approximately €3,700.
