The Panasonic Lumix DC-S5D is a compact full-frame system camera that focuses on both photography and video. Thanks to its hybrid character and extensive feature set, the camera is suitable for users who are looking for a balance between image quality, ease of use and flexibility.
The camera is equipped with a 24.2 megapixel full-frame sensor without a low-pass filter. This results in sharp, detailed images. For situations where maximum resolution is desired, the High-Resolution Shot mode offers an output of up to 96 megapixels.
The Lumix S5D features 5-axis image stabilization in the body, which in combination with Dual IS offers up to 6.5 stops of compensation. This makes sharp images possible, even at longer shutter speeds or hand-held work in less light.
For video, the S5D offers extensive options, including 4K recording up to 60p, HDR and slow motion up to 180 fps in Full HD. Internal recording in 10-bit 4:2:2 is possible at 4K30p with V-Log. Via HDMI, the camera also supports 4K60p with output in ProRes RAW and BRAW. In addition, there is support for anamorphic recording for a wider image size.
The autofocus focuses in 0.08 seconds and recognizes faces, eyes, people and animals. Focusing is possible down to -6EV. The camera supports 7 frames per second in AFS and works together with DJI Lidar AF for precise focusing in video and photography.
The housing is made of magnesium alloy and offers protection against dust and splash water. The electronic viewfinder has a resolution of 2.4 million pixels, with a refresh rate of 120Hz and 0.74x magnification. The fully tiltable touchscreen makes recording from different angles easy.
The S5D uses the L-mount system, which gives access to a wide selection of lenses from Panasonic and other members of the L-Mount Alliance. This makes the system easy to expand to different applications.
