In this announcement, Nikon unveils the all-new D5, an FX-format DSLR that delivers power and precision for photographers who demand the very best from this camera format. With this new flagship camera, Nikon once again raises the bar for speed, accuracy, and sensitivity.
Thanks to the highest expandable sensitivity in Nikon's history, it is genuinely possible to capture more than the naked eye can see. And for filmmakers who want to push the limits, D-Movie now offers the ability to record 4K UHD (Ultra High Definition) movies, according to Nikon.
Next-generation AF
153 focus points and 99 cross-type sensors. With AF sensitivity down to -4 EV (ISO 100, 20 ºC), the D5 delivers outstanding performance in extremely low light. Subjects at the edge of the frame are detected effortlessly, while vertical shooting is greatly improved by the inclusion of cross-type sensors at the edge of the focus area. The autofocus system now has its own dedicated AF processor, allowing its full computing power to be devoted to a single task.
Extremely high sensitivity, from bright sunlight to near darkness
An ISO range of 100 to 102,400, expandable to ISO 3,280,000 equivalent (Hi 5). Experience exceptionally clean images throughout the entire ISO range.
High-definition 4K/UHD movies
4K Ultra High Definition movies (3840x2160 pixels) at 30p/25p/24p use a pixel-for-pixel crop from the center of the frame, ensuring the highest image quality. The camera records Full HD video (1080p) at up to 50p/60p in multiple formats.
The D5 captures up to 200 NEF (RAW) or large JPEG images in a single high-speed burst. That is enough to photograph an entire 100-meter sprint final without lifting your finger from the shutter-release button.
The all-new 20.8 MP FX-format CMOS image sensor and 180K-pixel RGB metering sensor deliver phenomenally accurate subject recognition and precise image detail. Tonal gradations are smoother and more accurate, while the new EXPEED 5 image-processing engine ensures exceptional image quality across the standard ISO range.
The Nikon D5 shoots at up to 12 fps with AE/AF tracking, or 14 fps with the mirror raised. AF tracking and viewfinder image stability have been significantly improved when photographing fast, unpredictable action.
Two new XQD card slots, a new USB 3.0 port for quickly transferring large amounts of data, and wireless and Ethernet connections that are 4x faster.
