The built-in vibration reduction provides up to 5.5 stops of compensation, depending on the camera and settings used. This helps when shooting handheld or from a monopod, although a lens of this size is of course intended primarily for serious work on the sidelines, in nature or from a tripod.
The balance has been optimized accordingly. The centre of gravity is located around the tripod mount, making the lens feel more stable and less likely to pull forward.
