Dutch photographers Eddo Hartmann, Jasper Doest and Hendrik J Hunter were nominated in the 2024 Sony World Photography Awards Professional competition. They were in contention for the title Photographer of the Year 2024. The overall winner of the prestigious competition will be chosen from the professional finalists.
More than 395,000 images from over 220 countries and territories were entered in the Sony World Photography Awards that year, a record for the Professional competition.
Eddo Hartmann is a finalist in the Landscape category. His series The Sacrifice Zone explores a remote area in Kazakhstan that was once the site of the country's most important nuclear testing facilities Soviet Union. He uses infrared to show the consequences of radiation contamination, invisible to the human eye. Eddo has also been shortlisted in the Documentary Projects category of the Professional Competition.
Jasper Doest is a finalist in the Wildlife & Nature category with his project Footsteps of Giants. With this series he reveals the delicate balance between people and elephants in rural Zambia: an uneasy truce that is increasingly disrupted as both populations compete for limited resources.

Elephants charge through Livingstone's narrow streets, their towering figures trumpeting into the night. Altered habitats mean they emerge from the national park at dusk to seek food within Livingstone. A nighttime curfew, urging the community to stay indoors, aims to reduce human-wildlife conflict.
Hendrik J Hunter is a Dutch photographer whose entry was shortlisted in the Landscape category of the Professional competition.
The winners of the Student, Youth, Open and Professional competitions at the 2024 Sony World Photography Awards were announced on April 18, 2024.

Magda's love caravan. In this parking strip at the Cologne-Eifeltor industrial estate, prostitutes wait for their customers in 10–15 caravans. The space between two caravans is just large enough to park a car.
A selection of work by finalists and shortlisted photographers was exhibited at Somerset House in London from April 19 to May 6, 2024.
