Dutch photographer Marjolein Martinot has been nominated in the Professional competition of the Sony World Photography Awards 2023. She now has a chance to win the grand title Photographer of the Year 2023. The overall winner of the prestigious competition is chosen from the professional finalists.
More than 415,000 photos from more than two hundred countries and territories were submitted to the 2023 competition and more than 180,000 photographers took part in the Professional Competition – the highest number of entries ever.
Marjolein Martinot submitted several series of photos for the Portfolio category, including Riverland, an analog photography project she started in 2020.
The series Riverland shows different scenes – portraits, still lifes and landscapes – taken in and around the rivers and waterways of southern France. With this series she wanted to show how a winding river can be an echo of the continuous and unexpected course of life.
The final winners in the Student, Youth, Open and Professional competitions of the Sony World Photography Awards 2023 were due to be announced on April 13, 2023.
A selection of images from finalists and selected photographers was exhibited as part of the Sony World Photography Awards at Somerset House from April 14 to May 1, 2023.
