The Harman Phoenix 200 is a limited edition 35mm color film developed and made entirely from emulsion to cassette by Harman technology, one of the largest manufacturers of analog photographic films, photo paper and photo chemicals.
In late 2022, a small team was tasked with a secret 'skunk works' project to see if they could design, coat and produce a color film at Harman's UK factory in Mobberley, Cheshire.
The result is Harman Phoenix, an ISO 200 color negative film, with an unmistakably analog look. It produces photos with high contrast, strong, visible grain and vivid, striking colors.
It comes in a 36-exposure DX-coded cassette and can be exposed between ISO 100 and 400, but performs best at ISO 200 in good, consistent light, with the possibility of halation.
Halation in photography refers to a lighting effect where light spreads out from the back of the film, creating a glow around light sources or bright areas, often thought of as a type of halo effect. This is especially common in analog photography and is sometimes used for artistic effects.
Unique properties
Highly visible grain, vibrant colors that can react differently to scanner settings, strong green, pleasant red and brilliant blue, possibility of halation in backlit shots, some coating defects, only available in 36 shots, and development according to standard C41 process.
Requires custom scanning parameters before printing or digitizing due to the unique nature of the emulsion. (Available on request).
