An entirely new Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 70-200 f/2.8 ASPH. telephoto zoom and the new Leica Extender L 2.0x expand the L-Mount range, completing the lens trinity for the Leica SL system.
A trinity consists of three zoom lenses, often with a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8. Together, these lenses cover a vast range of focal lengths—from wide-angle through standard to telephoto—with just three lenses in the camera bag.
With a trinity, photographers can move seamlessly from ultra-wide-angle views suited to sweeping landscapes to telephoto perspectives for distant details, along with everything in between.
As the third zoom lens with an F/2.8 aperture throughout its zoom range, the new Vario-Elmarit-SL 70-200 f/2.8 ASPH., together with the Super-Vario-Elmarit-SL 14-24 f/2.8 ASPH. and the Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70mm f/2.8 ASPH., forms a powerful trinity for the Leica SL system.
These three SL lenses support photography and video with a constant maximum aperture across the complete focal-length range from 14mm ultra-wide angle to 200mm telephoto. Leica Camera AG is also introducing a teleconverter for L-Mount Vario telephoto lenses. The Leica Extender L 2.0x extends the new SL lens to a maximum focal length of 400mm.
The classic telephoto zoom range makes this lens suitable for portrait photography. Its constant f/2.8 maximum aperture throughout the zoom range, combined with effective image stabilization, also makes the new Vario zoom versatile for event, sports, and nature photography.
The lens contains 20 elements in 15 groups, including three with aspherical surfaces, to produce sharp, detailed images at every focal length—even in the corners of the frame. Internal focusing keeps the lens at the same overall length regardless of the selected focal length, supporting comfortable handling.
The Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 70-200 f/2.8 ASPH. comes with a tripod collar, allowing the lens and an SL camera to remain well balanced on a tripod.
Leica Extender L 2.0x
With the new, separately available Leica Extender L 2.0x , the focal-length range of the new Vario telephoto zoom can be extended from 70-200mm to 140-400mm. The extender is also compatible with the current Leica Vario-Elmar-SL 1:5–6.3/100–400, giving it a super-telephoto maximum focal length of 800 mm.
The Extender L 2.0x takes up little room in a camera bag while offering many additional creative possibilities.
