Leica introduces the Vario-Elmarit-SL 28–70 f/2.8 ASPH: a compact standard zoom for the SL system.
Leica expands its SL range with the Vario-Elmarit-SL 28–70 f/2.8 ASPH, a fast standard zoom lens for the L-Mount system. The lens combines a constant f/2.8 aperture, a versatile zoom range, and a relatively compact, lightweight design for this segment.
The optical design consists of 16 elements in 12 groups, including three double-aspherical elements. This contributes to high image sharpness and minimal aberrations throughout the zoom range.

The lens is suitable for a wide range of applications, from wide-angle to short-telephoto work (28–70 mm), making it suitable for landscape, travel, and portrait photography, among other uses.
The autofocus operates quickly and accurately, while advanced lens coatings provide neutral color reproduction, high contrast, and effective reduction of reflections. The metal construction is dust- and splash-resistant, making the lens suitable for use in a variety of conditions.
At 102 mm long, 72 mm in diameter, and weighing 572 grams, the lens remains easy to handle – including for video applications where compact dimensions and a constant maximum aperture are important.
