Leica introduces the Vario-Elmarit-SL 28–70 f/2.8 ASPH., a compact standard zoom for the SL system.
Leica expands its SL range with the Vario-Elmarit-SL 28–70 f/2.8 ASPH., a fast standard zoom lens for the L-Mount system. The lens combines a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, a versatile zoom range, and a relatively compact, lightweight design for its class.
The optical design consists of 16 elements in 12 groups, including three double-aspherical elements. This helps deliver high sharpness and minimal aberrations throughout the zoom range.

The lens is suitable for applications ranging from wide-angle to short-telephoto work (28–70 mm), making it useful for landscape, travel, and portrait photography, among other subjects.
Autofocus is fast and precise, while advanced lens coatings provide neutral color reproduction, high contrast, and effective suppression of reflections. Its metal construction is dust- and splash-resistant, making the lens suitable for a variety of conditions.
At 102 mm long and 72 mm in diameter, and with a weight of 572 grams, the lens remains easy to handle—including for video work where compact dimensions and a constant maximum aperture matter.
