One of these legendary M lenses has now been refined with the latest high-end technology while retaining its compact and lightweight design: the Leica Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH - for even more flexibility and freedom when photographing.
The new Summilux-M, with its versatile 50mm focal length, is ideal for a wide range of photography scenarios. It maximizes the capabilities of new camera sensors and provides remarkable contrast and detail, even in difficult lighting situations. Additionally, the lens has 11 aperture blades, as opposed to the previous model's nine, which produces a noticeably rounder and smoother bokeh effect.
The lens also offers new close-up capabilities. The minimum focusing distance has been reduced from 70cm to 45cm, thanks to a unique double-cam mechanism designed by Leica engineers. This design gives the focusing ring a longer throw, improving precision across the entire focus range. Despite these changes, the lens remains easy to use, with no changes to framing or focusing sensitivity, even when focusing at closer distances.
For distances up to 70 cm, use the rangefinder on digital and analog M cameras. To focus between 70 and 45 cm, you should use Live View, the Visoflex or the Leica FOTOS app after you feel a subtle resistance.
With a camera like the Leica M EV1 the integrated electronic viewfinder helps with this type of precise manual focusing.
Like the 35mm model in Leica’s fast Summilux-M series, the Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. has now been technically and optically refined. Even the lens hood has a round design matching the 50mm focal length. It is built directly into the lens and can be extended or retracted at any time with a twist. Just like the previous model, the new Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH is available in a silver or black anodized version.
The classic focal length is suitable for all current and future M cameras, as well as high-resolution sensor cameras such as the Leica M11 Monochrom and the M11. In combination with the Leica M-Adapter L, the Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH can also be used for photography and filming with a Leica SL2 and SL2-S. This provides system compatibility “Made by Leica”.
