Leica expands the SL system with two new ultra-wide-angle lenses: Super-Vario-Elmarit-SL 14-24 f/2.8 ASPH. and Super-APO-Summicron-SL 21 f/2 ASPH. Both new lenses not only strengthen the Leica SL system, but also the ever-expanding portfolio of the L-Mount alliance.

With the Super-Vario-Elmarit-SL 14-24 f/2.8 ASPH. For the first time, Leica offers a focal length of 14 mm for the SL system. Thanks to the consistently large aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom range, impressive images and videos of the highest quality with high contrast can be created.
The very large diagonal angle of view of up to 114 degrees normally leads to unavoidable distortions and aberrations in ultra-wide-angle lenses, but these are now compensated by the advanced optical construction of the lens. This means that subjects are sharp right down to the corners at any aperture and any focal length.
In this new Vario lens, 18 lens parts in 13 groups compensate for chromatic aberrations and three aspherical lens parts ensure the best image quality in photos and video. The focal range of 14 to 24 mm makes this ultra-wide-angle zoom lens a great tool for countless photographic applications such as architecture and interior shots, reportage close to the action, and astro and landscape photography.
In the new zoom lens, unwanted stray light is prevented by a multi-coating of the glass surfaces and a fixed metal lens hood. The latter also serves as robust protection for the strongly curved front lens.
The Super-Vario-Elmarit-SL 14-24 f/2.8 ASPH. is also equipped with a special filter holder on the side of the bayonet mount. In combination with the Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-70 f/2.8 ASPH. this new ultra-wide-angle zoom lens covers a wide focal range and provides relatively light luggage with full flexibility.
Super-APO-Summicron-SL 21 f/2 ASPH.
The Super-APO-Summicron-SL 21 f/2 ASPH. is the world's first APO lens with a focal length of 21mm. The wide-angle lens meets the highest professional requirements and offers consistent sharpness right into the corners of the image.
Just like the already available lenses with a focal length of 28, 35, 50, 75 or 90 mm, the Super-APO-Summicron-SL 21 f/2 ASPH. the same compact dimensions with the same E67 filter diameter - despite the extreme viewing angle.
This viewing angle of the Super-APO-Summicron-SL 21 f/2 ASPH. is suitable for landscape photography, indoors, during reports, in the studio and at architectural photography. The closest focusing distance of just 21 cm also ensures effective detail shots, while the large maximum aperture offers additional creative possibilities thanks to the selective use of sharpness and blur.
The 14 precisely made lens parts, three of which have an aspherical surface, are divided into 11 groups and contribute to the high image quality, even with the aperture fully open. The lens has an apochromatic correction: the majority of the lens elements used are made of high-quality special glass that can only be processed with the most advanced production methods.
