Photographer Jimmy Nelson, known for his beautiful photographs and the books Before They Pass Away and Homage to Humanity, appeared as a guest on Speakers Academy Talks on November 6, 2020.
Jimmy had traveled nonstop around the world for more than 30 years. In 2020, he was forced to pause for the first time—to listen, feel, and reflect on how he would continue his creative mission and story.
This free webinar featured a conversation with Jimmy about his remarkable work and his journey of connection, acceptance, and respect. During the live broadcast, viewers also had an opportunity to ask questions.
Jimmy Nelson can be seen as both the scenographer and director of the images he creates during encounters with Indigenous peoples on his far-ranging travels. In 2010, he began traveling specifically to produce a book, published in 2013 as Before They Pass Away. Its success and reception enabled and encouraged Jimmy to continue this journey. In October 2018, Nelson published his first interactive book, Homage to Humanity.
Proceeds from his art projects helped establish the Jimmy Nelson Foundation , taking the work a step further by supporting communities in the field.
This webinar with Jimmy Nelson, along with other Speakers Academy Talks episodes, was an initiative of Speakers Academy.
