Photographer Erwin Olaf created a series of photographs of Dutch National Ballet for the Groninger Museum. Inspired by Auguste Rodin’s famous sculptures, the series went on display at the museum on November 19. The museum acquired nine works.
The Groninger Museum has worked with Erwin Olaf. His solo exhibition Silver was shown there in 2003, and the museum owns important works by Olaf. The new series is a magnificent addition to the collection.
The collaboration was featured in the program accompanying the exhibition Rodin—Genius at Work. On Friday, April 28, 2017, Erwin Olaf discussed the photographs during Groninger Museum Friday Night.
Auguste Rodin (1840–1917) was the greatest and most influential sculptor and one of the most popular artists of the modern era. The Groninger Museum displayed more than 140 sculptures and 20 works on paper, making it the largest Rodin exhibition ever held in the Netherlands.
