The new Sony α9 III is also equipped with high-density focal plane phase detection AF. The AI processor in the camera uses Real-time recognition AF to recognize a wide variety of subjects with high precision. Combining performance of up to 120 fps with highly accurate subject recognition, the α9 III makes it possible to easily photograph important scenes and moments that cannot be captured with the naked eye.
Real-time Recognition AF and Real-time Tracking can automatically recognize, track and focus on a subject's eyes. The α9 III is further equipped with 8.0 stops of optical 5-axis in-body image stabilization for high-quality image reproduction.
Freed from the limitations of conventional mechanical shutter image sensors, the α9 III's shutter speed reaches a maximum shutter speed of 1/80000 second (1/16000 second during continuous shooting). This makes it possible to shoot at high speed without experiencing distortion. When you connect a corresponding Sony flash to the α9 III, such as the HVL-F60RM2 and HVL-F46RM (sold separately), it is possible to synchronize the flash and take pictures at shutter speeds of up to 1/80000 second.
Previously, the amount of light decreased sharply when photographers set the shutter speed faster than the flash's sync speed. With the full-speed flash sync function, it is now possible to photograph scenes that could not be easily captured with conventional technology.
The Sony α9 III also offers selectable release-lag modes, allowing photographers to prioritize the delay between pressing the shutter button and the viewfinder/monitor display. The new Pre-Capture function on the α9 III allows photographers to go back up to 1 second and capture the moment before the shutter button was pressed.
Continuous Shooting Speed Boost and improved burst endurance help capture important moments reliably through a large buffer and greater overall system speed. The camera can capture approximately 390 Fine JPEG images in a single continuous burst at 30 fps.
With the Pre-set Focus/Zoom function, preset focus and zoom settings can be saved in the camera. These pre-sets can be quickly set up if necessary. In addition to the existing custom white balance frame size, photographers can now also select other sizes as desired, so that the white balance can be precisely adjusted after a photo is taken.
The α9 III also has a number of other improved features. This camera has the latest AF algorithms for high AF precision at low light levels down to EV-5 in AF-S mode (ISO 100 equivalent, F2.0 lens). The α9 III also has AF tracking for continuous shooting at F22 and a composite RAWrecording function that provides the ability to combine multiple consecutive images into a high-quality composite image.
The VG-C5 vertical grip (sold separately) provides the same operability and versatility when photographers shoot horizontal images, while offering comfortable support during longer sessions. Its grip and shutter button match the design and controls of the α9 III body, allowing images to be captured comfortably.
New features on the Sony α9 III include a filter when reviewing the images and the function menu. For example, the playback filter makes it possible for photographers to efficiently select a large number of images.
The function menu on the α9 III can now also be used while reviewing images. Both features support professional workflows from recording to delivery.
The so-called “Playback Function Menu” can be preset, so that the user can easily use image protection, smartphone transmission, FTP transmission and many other functions while playing back the images. Images can be easily selected from the function menu, allowing images to be delivered quickly.
The α9 III can transfer data up to two times faster than the α9 II. 5 GHz communication offers maximum speed and stability for news and sports photographers who need to deliver images immediately via FTP, as well as for studio environments. The α9 III can record photos and movies in various ways. The two media slots support CFexpress Type A cards, UHS-I and UHS-II SD cards.
