Nikon announced its new flagship DX-format DSLR. The camera was designed to meet the ambitions of photographers who wanted to create exceptional images with a lightweight DSLR. The D7200 was also Nikon’s first DSLR to support NFC (Near Field Communication). Users could choose to transfer their photos to a smart device via either NFC or the camera’s Wi-Fi function.
The autofocus system, the same one used in Nikon’s professional cameras, enables precise focusing on the subject down to -3 EV (ISO 100, 20 °C). Combined with the camera’s wide ISO range and fast continuous shooting, this makes it possible to capture sharp images in the dark.
It also features a DX-format image sensor, EXPEED 4 image processing and an ISO range of 100–25,600. One AF point (in the center) is f/8-compatible, allowing more lens and teleconverter combinations.
Users can shoot at up to 6 fps in DX format and up to 7 fps in 1.3x crop mode, while the camera’s large buffer can capture up to 27 12-bit RAW images and up to 100 high-quality JPEGs in a single high-speed burst. When shooting in 1.3x crop mode with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18–300mm f/3.5–6.3G, for example, the reach can be extended to approximately 600 mm (FX equivalent).
The commander function of the camera’s built-in flash lets you configure and synchronize up to two groups of Nikon Speedlight flashes wirelessly.
The Nikon D7200 (its final DSLR successor was the Nikon D7500) was scheduled to become available on March 19, 2015.
