Rollei begins a new chapter in its long history with the introduction of its first lens, the Rollei AF 85 mm F/1.8. This lens is compatible with Sony FE and Nikon Z mounts. With the introduction of the VAF series, Rollei expands its product portfolio with lenses designed specifically for modern full-frame mirrorless cameras.
The 85-millimeter focal length has traditionally been popular for portrait photography. Thanks to its maximum aperture of F/1.8, the lens delivers good low-light performance and a shallow depth of field. Eleven rounded aperture blades produce smooth bokeh.
The optical design consists of ten elements in seven groups, including two ED and two HR elements. This design is intended to deliver high image sharpness into the corners and minimize chromatic aberrations. An HFT-X coating helps reduce reflections and ghosting.
The lens features an STM motor for quiet and fast autofocus. Face and eye detection are supported. The minimum focusing distance is 0.85 meters, with a maximum magnification of 0.12x.
Despite its metal housing, the weight is limited to 477 grams. The Sony FE version features a linear aperture ring with stepless operation, intended for video applications. Both versions have an AF/MF switch, a programmable function button, and a USB-C port for firmware updates. The filter size is 62 mm.
Both lenses feature precision metal mounts (E-mount and Z-mount, respectively) with full EXIF data transfer and a USB-C port for quick firmware updates in just 30 seconds. The 62-millimeter filter thread is compatible with all standard filters in the company's range.

The Rollei AF 85 mm F/1.8 for Sony FE and Nikon Z will be available from July 9 for approximately €349.
