Canon introduces the RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens, a compact option for capturing high-quality 3D photos and videos. This new lens offers an accessible way to explore spatial video, especially when paired with an EOS R-series APS-C camera.
With a 63-degree field of view designed to approximate human vision, the lens creates imagery that adds a sense of space and depth to the viewing experience.
At present, the lens is compatible with the EOS R7 camera, allowing creators to capture spatial video that can be experienced not only through high-end VR headsets, but also on smartphones with VR glasses, cardboard headsets, and even handheld viewers for printed images.
The RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens weighs just 130 grams and features quiet, smooth STM autofocus, making it easy to capture detailed 3D imagery for many applications. Examples include realistic photos and videos of cultural events, product presentations, and walkthrough videos for real estate and hotels.
An update to the EOS VR Utility app makes it easy to adapt footage captured with this lens for viewing on Apple Vision Pro headsets. Mac users can export footage in the MV-HEVC codec.
