Born in Mexico City, Cristina Mittermeier trained as a marine biologist and photographer. She combines her work behind the lens with her passion for environmental awareness. Through her photography, she explores the relationship between land and ocean around the world, drawing attention both to the beauty of our planet and to its precarious state. Her photo book Amaze is a beautiful collection of outstanding nature photography and an inspiration for sustainable living.

The book presents the two series Enoughness and The Water's Edge. The first outlines Mittermeier's philosophy for a mindful and sustainable way of living in the world. It brings together photographs of wildlife, landscapes, and Indigenous peoples from some of Earth's most remote regions. Mittermeier challenges material wealth by showing alternative approaches that enable a meaningful, sustainable connection with our environment, one another, and ourselves.

In The Water's Edge Mittermeier presents photographs from around the world that define the boundary between land and ocean and reveal its special significance for human life. Whether fishermen bringing in their daily catch, women washing clothes in shallow water, or surfers floating in the mist, the water's edge emerges as a universal space where fleeting moments reveal not only our shared dependence on the planet, but also our humanity.
The series also inspires sustainable living through its stunning nature photography. Amaze is an essential book for anyone who cares about our planet and the people who inhabit it.

From ocean shores to some of the world's most remote Indigenous communities, photographer Cristina Mittermeier explores humanity's relationship with the planet and the possibilities for a sustainable future.
Every other breath we take comes from the ocean. What we do or fail to do in the next five years will determine what our oceans and planet look like for the next ten thousand years. That is why I co-founded SeaLegacy, an organization that, with your support, can change how the story ends. —Cristina Mittermeier ©
