In his Amsterdam studio, in perfect afternoon light, Thomas Manneke photographs still lifes with an 8x10-inch view camera. Zillion mainly contains photographs made in collaboration with his daughter Laurie. The book also features beautiful portraits of her.
The objects depicted were specially made for photographing them. Sometimes they are inspired by found objects, such as a small gray stone with jagged white lines or a web made by caterpillars.
Some creations are based on historical artworks, including Josef Albers’s glass drawings and folded-paper sculptures. The dynamic cardboard cutouts were inspired by the photography of Francis Bruguière.
Zillion
"The book shows 54 black and white photos, made over the past three years. Most were photographed with an 8x10-inch camera. The images show everyday observations, still lifes of found objects, and objects made by me or my daughter Laurie.
