Five Dutch photographers were nominated for the prestigious 2015 Sony World Photography Awards, one of the world’s largest photography competitions.
The five photographers were selected for the professional and open competitions from 173,440 entries submitted by photographers in 171 countries. The competition had never received so many entries before.
Series description: Hannah and Alena are two sisters growing up in the Waldviertel, the rural area between Vienna and Czech Republic.
The five photographers are Julie van der Vaart, Professional Conceptual; Carla Kogelman, Professional People; Michiel Hageman, Open Architecture; Lione Bakker, Open Enhanced; and Theo de Witte, Open Enhanced.
The SWPA, then being held for the eighth time, was one of the world’s most prestigious photography competitions and brought international recognition and opportunities to winning and nominated photographers alike.

All nominated photographs were scheduled to be shown at Somerset House in London from May 1 through May 18 as part of the 2014 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition.
At the time, the professional finalists were due to compete on April 23, 2015, for the title of Sony World Photography Awards Photographer of the Year, presented as the Iris d’or, as well as 30,000 dollars and professional Sony camera equipment. The winning amateur was to receive 5,000 dollars and professional Sony camera equipment.
