39-year-old photographer Mihaela Noroc has spent much of the past eleven years traveling. During her travels to remote corners of the world, she photographs women and listens to their personal stories. These encounters form the basis of her internationally acclaimed project The Atlas of Beauty.
To date, Noroc has captured women in approximately a hundred countries and in an enormous range of settings. Her images reach a global audience and challenge common ideas about beauty. It is not external perfection that is central, but authenticity, identity and individuality.

Her first book, The Atlas of Beauty: Women of the World in 500 Portraits, was published in 2017. After another seven years of intensive photography all over the world, Noroc now presents The Power of Women: An Atlas of Beauty Book.
In this new book she portrays five hundred women from about sixty countries, from Afghanistan to Japan and from Peru to the United States. The combination of photography and personal stories shows the many forms women’s strength can take. Noroc creates strong contrasts between image and text, which together reflect the richness and diversity of the world.
The subjects range from mothers and daughters to firefighters, craftswomen, lawyers, students and artists. Their backgrounds differ, but they share a common message: strength is not only expressed in physical strength, but also in qualities such as resilience, creativity, empathy, honesty and courage.

According to Noroc, a woman can be powerful even when she feels vulnerable. With The Power of Women, she invites readers to recognize and embrace their own inner strength. The book sits at the intersection of photography and inspiration, making it not only a visually impressive publication, but also a source of motivation in a world that is constantly changing.
