Frank Kunert is one of Germany’s foremost photographers. Through painstaking processes, he builds precise miniature worlds, which he presents as deceptively realistic scenes of everyday life. Rooms, houses, bridges, towers: his architectural situations reflect both inner emotions and social conditions. In their apparent banality, these surreal scenes express a present that feels both familiar and unsettling.
This "Best of" presents a selection of works from three of his books previously published by Hatje Cantz Verlag. It is not only a tribute to an extraordinary artist, but also to many years of successful collaboration.
Frank Kunert (*1963 in Frankfurt/M.) began taking photographs as a teenager. Initially interested mainly in landscapes, he turned to studio work after completing his photographic training. To this day, his work focuses on designing and photographing miniature environments.
The absurdity of everyday life
Frank Kunert’s works are regularly shown in exhibitions in Germany and abroad. The artist has received several awards for his work, including the Heinrich Zille Caricature Prize and a silver award in the German Photo Book Prize. Frank Kunert lives in Boppard, Germany.
