Using several elements, the optical design of this lens simultaneously corrects chromatic and spherical aberrations for high optical performance throughout the zoom range. Optimized coatings provide high resistance to flare and ghosting, for beautiful contrast and clarity.
The short minimum focus distance of the FE 20-70mm F4 G lens makes it easy to maneuver around subjects, such as small flowers, to find the ideal angle (0.3 meters at the wide end and 0.25 meters at the telephoto end of the zoom range when using AF). The maximum magnification is 0.39x for dynamic, detailed close-ups. Towards previous models AF speed has been improved by 60%.
Adjustable focus buttons are located in two places for easy access and convenient operation. The focus switch on the side of the lens makes it possible to switch between autofocus and manual focus to quickly respond to changing shooting conditions.
Although the lens has an ultra-wide angle, it is compatible with circular polarizing filters at the edge of the lens, giving the user full creative control. It also includes an Iris Lock switch to prevent unwanted changes while shooting.
